FOTON ended a three-match skid, downing RC Cola-Air Force, 25-14, 25-13, 25-16, on Tuesday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan.
American reinforcement Lindsay Stalzer scored 15 and Jaja Santiago added 14 points as the Tornadoes completed their first-round assignments with a 2-3 win-loss record.
“Learning from our mistakes nadala na rin ang mga players,” said Foton assistant coach Ian Fernandez, who called the shots as head coach Vilet Ponce de Leon had to focus on her regular job.
The Tornadoes struggled in their past three matches, losing in four or five sets. But Fernandez, team captain of the Philippine team in the 2013 Asian Men’s Club Championship, said they sorted the issues during training.
“Kumbaga sa racing banderang kapos palagi,” said Fernandez. “Kaya ang ginagawa namin sa practice, lalo na sa crucial, ’yung quality and consistency ng plays.
“Tapos nag-over load rin kami sa setter kasi usually kasi hindi naman mali ng spiker eh kaya nag focus ako sa setter namin kasi setter ang laro ko,” he added.
Ivy Perez registered all of Foton's 33 excellent sets, and the Tornadoes had much more digs than the Raiders, 31-9.
Puerto Rican import Lynda Morales had nine points for the Raiders, who absorbed their fourth consecutive loss and fell to 1-4.
