F2 Logistics drubbed New San Jose Builders, 25-23, 25-10, 25-4, in a battle of newcomers in the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.

Cebuana spiker Danika Gendrauli powered the Victorias with 10 points, while Pau Soriano and Lilet Mabbayad each had eight markers for the winning side.

Former Petron star Aby Marano and skipper Cha Cruz finished with seven points apiece for F2 Logistics, which joined returning RC Cola Army as opening-day winners.

F2 Logistics coach Mayie Molit-Prochina was happy to see her hastily assembled team overcome a tense start in a match that took an hour and 14 minutes to finish.

“Masaya of course, kasi ngayon lang kami nabuo talaga,” she said. “Pero ‘yun nga ang first set namin kanina sobrang tense pa ang mga bata, gigil na gigil pa sila.”

“Fulfilling lang kasi two weeks lang kami nag-ensayo.”

Molit-Prochina, a former national team player and was part of the squad that copped the country’s last Southeast Asian Games gold medal, said Marano can be an asset to the team.

Aside from her offense, Marano also had nine digs for F2 Logistics.

“She’s good, magaling, sumusunod naman, ‘yun nga lang hindi pa gaano (sanay) sa setter,” she said.

“Sa tangkad ba naman ni Aby, (asset siya sa) blocking,” she added. “Pag nasa likod siya hindi siya nagpapalibero kaya nakakatulong siya sa likod hindi ‘yung puro sa harap.”

Maribeth Lara made eight points for New San Jose Builders.
