AN exhibition match between the Ateneo Lady Eagles and the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses that was to serve as an opening act of a big Philippine Super Liga playdate at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday will not push through, organizers said.
In a statement released to media outlets, PSL chairman Popoy Juico said a 'late announcement' by Ateneo caused the cancellation of the match that was to serve as the appetizer to the deciding Game 3 of the F2 Logistics-Petron finals.
The Lady Eagles, who are preparing for the coming UAAP volleyball season, have for so long been the top attraction in the Shakey's V-League and later the Premier Volleyball League.
However, Juico made it clear Ateneo management agreed to let the Lady Eagles play in the exhibition match before the late change of heart.
Here's Juico's statement in full:
"We regret to announce that the scheduled friendly game between Ateneo and University of Santo Tomas volleyball teams that was to serve as an appetizer to today's championship game between Petron and F2 Logistics will not push through.
"A late announcement by the Ateneo de Manila University officials caused the cancellation of the match they have earlier agreed to play.
"The Philippine Superliga still welcomes the Ateneo Volleyball Team to play in the league as we are open to all interested squads who want to be partners of the PSL."
