THE towering American imports took charge for Cignal, while Aby Praca also came up with a fine performance as the HD Lady Spikers downed RC Cola Air Force, 25-17, 25-23, 25-23, in the opener of the 2014 Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix on Saturday at Araneta Coliseum.
Sarah Ammerman and Lindsay Stalzer led the way with 19 and 15 points, respectively, while Praca also scored on big hits for 11 points to help the HD Lady Spikers, who needed an hour and 16 minutes to finish the match.
Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar said they had been working on speeding up their plays during the three-week preparation for the tournament.
The veteran mentor is also pleased to work with Ammerman and Stalzer this time after struggling to communicate with Chinese reinforcements in previous tournaments.
“Ngayon they speak english so there is no language barrier, they can communicate well with us, 'di kagaya noong nakaraan kong imports hindi sumusunod sa akin, hindi ko alam kung tinatarayan ako kasi may language barrier,” said Acaylar.
"They (Ammerman and Stalzer) listen, they are smart and they are beautiful like me," added Acaylar.
Two-time runner-up Cignal dominated the net with seven block points against the four of RC Cola Air Force, although the Raiders registered better stats in reception (21-17). The HD Lady Spikers scored five service aces against none by RC Cola Air Force.
Emily Brown scored 18 points from 16 spikes and two blocks for the Raiders, runners-up in the All-Filipino conference.
