GRETHCEL Soltones showed the way for PLDT in ending a two-game skid with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 victory over the hapless Marinerang Pilipina in the Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference on Saturday at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
In a no-bearing battle as Petron and Cignal already secured the semifinals berth in Pool C, Soltones lifted the Power Hitters with 15 points and 10 digs to torch the Lady Skippers in one hour and 17 minutes.
Besides Soltones, Jerrili Malabanan fired eight attacks and three aces for 11 points. Shola Alvarez had eight points. Jasmin Nabor dished out 16 excellent sets, while Lizlee Pantone had 13 excellent receptions and eight digs.
PLDT improved to 2-3 win-loss record before wrapping up its campaign against Petron on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan City.
No Lady Skipper scored in double figures with Seth Rodrigyez and Judith Abil leading the way with nine and eight points, respectively.
Marinerang Pilipina had another winless campaign, finishing the Invitationals without a single win in six outings as it skid ballooned to 21 straight games since the All-Filipino Conference.
