PLDT Home TVolution-Air Force survived an error-strewn match to beat Via Mare, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25, 25-18, on Sunday and remain unbeaten in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at Cuneta Astrodome.
Ranran Abdilla had 26 points from 20 spikes, two blocks and four service aces for the Power Attackers, winners of seven matches.
Ron Jay Galang and Alnasip Laja added 17 and 10 markers, respectively for PLDT, which had earlier booked a spot in the title match.
Despite the win, PLDT coach Jasper Jimenez was disappointed as his boys gave away 37 points to Via Mare on miscues, while the Voyagers only had 19 errors.
"Mabuti dito (sa eliminations) lumabas 'yung ganitong laro at hindi sa finals,” said Jimenez. “Ang daming errors, nagrelax na naman sila, nagkumpyansa kasi akala kayang kaya ang kalaban.”
“Palagi ko nga sinasabi sa kanila, malakas o mahina ang kalaban i-treat lagi ang game as a championship game,” he continued.
As penalty for their sluggish game, the Air Force-powered PLDT squad still had its regular 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. pratice on Monday even though the match ended at around 10 in the evening.
Samuel Paquiz and Giann Ramos made 15 and 12 markers respectively for Via Mare, winless in seven matches.
