AN undermanned Philippine women’s volleyball team still proved too much for Team Shine in the Philippine Super Liga Super Cup, 25-14, 25-18, 25-16, at The Arena in San Juan on Tuesday.

Mylene Paat, Ces Molina and Majoy Baron led the way for the Nationals, who missed the services of Creamline duo Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado as they prepare for their finals series opener against Petro Gazz in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Wednesday.

Paat had eight points, while Molina and Baron tallied seven markers apiece in the match that took an hour and 13 minutes to finish.

“Syempre kung ano man ‘yung nabigay namin kanina, gusto pa namin madagdagan ‘yun, ma-improve pa namin nang ma-improve kasi syempre may gusto pa rin kaming gawin para sa team namin,” said national team coach Shaq delos Santos.

The veteran coach was pleased to see his wards step up and fill in the void left by Valdez and Morado.

Jovelyn Gonzaga and Eya Laure chipped in six points for the nationals, while Rhea Dimaculangan had 13 excellent sets and three aces.

“Kailangan namin ma-cover up din ‘yung pagkukulang and syempre kaya rin namin binubuo itong team para magtulungan ang bawat isa, not only for the skills sa volleyball but of course ‘yung friendship na ma-create namin as family talaga,” said the veteran mentor.

“So ‘yun din ang goal namin, syempre lahat naman nagkakaroon ng mga conflict, ng mga challenges, ginagawan naman namin ng solusyon para hindi siya maging mabigat,” he added.

The national team will face Team Sparkle on Thursday before it goes up against Tsukuba University on Friday.

MJ Philips finished with eight points for Team Shine.
