THE Philippine national women’s volleyball team defeated Cocolife 25-13, 25-17, 25-11, in its first match in the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Jaja and Dindin Santiago, had 17 and 12 points, respectively, for the nationals.
Only seven others from the national pool — Aby Maraño, Mylene Paat, Kim Fajardo, Maika Ortiz, Majoy Baron, CJ Rosario and Denden Lazaro — saw action, while Cha Cruz-Behag and Kim Dy were present but did not play.
“Para sa amin ang adjustment nandoon pa rin and at the same time ‘yung lineup hindi naman kumpleto doon sa position,” said national team coach Shaq delos Santos.
“But good thing and we’re happy na nagde-deliver ang players namin kahit na anong position muna ang ibigay namin sa kanila,” he added.
The national team had 42 points from attacks against 21 by Cocolife, while hitting 13 service aces in the one hour and 19-minute match.
Petron players Mika Reyes and Ces Molina and Sta. Lucia duo MJ Phillips and Rebecca Rivera were excused from the national squad as they were set to see action for their clubs.
Pocari Sweat star Myla Pablo is nursing a back injury and Creamline did not allow its players Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado to see action for the national team in the PSL.
The national team will face Cignal on Tuesday and Smart on Thursday.
The matches against the national team will not affect the records of the PSL’s regular teams.
Patria Jela Pena and Justine Tiu each had six markers for the Asset Managers, who remained 1-2 in Pool B.
