PETRON disposed RC Cola Army, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, to grab the solo lead in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.
The Tri-Activ Spikers bagged their third consecutive win, hardly showing any rust despite a long break due to the FIVB Women's Club World Championship and the Halloween holidays.
American import Stephanie Niemer, who also saw action in the WCWC for the home team, made 24 points for the Tri-Activ Spikers.
The two-time champions also got an added boost from American reinforcement Serena Warner, skipper Ces Molina and Aiza Maizo Pontillas. Warner finished with 14 markers, Molina added 13 and Maizo-Pontillas chipped in 11.
“Syempre happy kami pero gusto namin ma-maintain ang ginagawa namin kasi medyo matagal ang tournament,” said Petron coach Shaq delos Santos.
“Kaya dapat mas tumibay kami at dapat mas mag-jell ang team at mapaghandaan pa ang mga makakalaban namin,” he added.
Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Anne Daquis combined for 26 points as the Lady Troopers fell to 1-1.
