PETRON made a short work of Generika-Ayala, 25-18, 25-22, 25-13, to extend its unbeaten run to two games and force a triple tie on top of the 2018 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas once again fueled the Blaze Spikers beating the Lifesavers in just 72 minutes for their second straight victory without dropping a single set and tie earlier winners F2 Logistics and Foton, who also have identical 2-0 win-loss records, on top of the standings.
Pontillas, Petron’s top scorer in its victory over Cocolife last week, continued to show her vintage form finishing with 11 points. Remy Palma also stepped up with nine points, Mika Reyes chipped in seven hits, while Bernadeth Pons and skipper Ces Molina added six markers apiece.
It was a sweet revenge for Petron Head Coach Shaq Delos Santos and his Blaze Spikers against the Lifesavers, who once upset them during the preliminary round of the Invitational Conference.
"Especially for me, mabigat 'yung nangyare sa amin. Sabi nga namin, ibang usapan na this time,” Delos Santos said. “Nag-prepare talaga kami. Good thing maganda 'yung result. In-expect talaga namin na magiging magandang laban ito.”
Petron will gun for its third win against Smart (1-0), 7 p.m., on Saturday at the same venue
After convincingly taking the first two sets, the Blaze Spikers routed the Lifesavers in the third set with a fiery 15-5 start never looking back for their second straight victory.
Generika-Ayala outmuscled Petron in the spiking department with a 36-31 differential but the Blaze Spikers had a 13-6 edge in blocking and 4-0 from the service line and even forced 27 errors from the Lifesavers.
Fiola Ceballos led Generika-Ayala with 12 points, while Patty Orendain and Angeli Araneta added 11 hits with 11 receptions and 10 markers and 12 digs, respectively.
The Lifesavers stayed winless after two games following a five-set loss to Foton Tornadoes last Saturday. They will try to bounce back against Cignal HD Spikers on Saturday at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan.
