PETRON moved a win away from winning back-to-back championships in the Philippine Super Liga-All Filipino Conference after it denied rival F2 Logistics, 25-23, 25-11, 25-17, in Game One of the best-of-three finals series on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
Sisi Rondina and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas delivered the goods for the Blaze Spikers, who are looking to bag their fourth title overall.
Rondina had 12 popints, built on 11 attacks, while Bernadeth Pons had 10, Remy Palma added nine and Maizo-Pontillas chipped in seven.
Defending champion Petron, which has already matched its 13-0 season sweep in the All-Filipino Conference in 2015, hopes to write another record when it wins on Game Two on Tuesday.
“Kanina ang ganda ng pinakita [ng team], nakakaproud ‘yung players sobrang gusto talaga nila manalo. Medyo slow start kami noong first set pero good thing nakarecover kami,” said Petron coach Shaq delos Santos.
“Ang goal talaga namin is pagtrabahuhan every game nga so ang result naman laging andyan lang ‘yan. Pero nakakaproud kasi nagawa namin ‘to [match 13-0 record],” he added.
Petron’s turning point came late in the first set when it dug itself out of a 13-19 hole.
The Blaze Spikers and the Cargo Movers are on their fifth straight finals showdown.
Ara Galang finished with nine points for F2 Logistics, which gave Petron 27 extra points courtesy of its errors in the match that took an hour and 28 minutes to finish.
