ALL eyes will be on F2 Logistics newest star Kalei Mau as she takes on her team’s archrival Petron on Thursday night in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Arena in San Juan City.
After clashing in the past six straight PSL finals, the rivals meet again with the Cargo Movers parading Mau against the defending champions, Blaze Spikers in their highly anticipated 7 p.m. duel.
F2 Logistics head coach Ramil De Jesus believes that his Fil-Am outside spiker will be the difference-maker in this rivalry match as she is expected to be the go-to hitter of the core bannered by Aby Marano, Ara Galang, Majoy Baron, Kianna Dy, libero Dawn Macandili and setter Michelle Cobb.
“Yun yung kulang ng team namin wala kaming go-to guy (katulad ni Mau),” said De Jesus. “Ito alam natin na mataas yung percentage and anytime kailangan namin ng isang go-to guy at isang leader para lalong mahila yung team.”
The 6-foot-2 hitter was the key for the back-to-back wins of F2 Logistics, which holds the solo lead with a 3-0 win-loss record.
But De Jesus insisted that Petron will be a force to be reckoned with after it completed a come-from-behind five-set win over Foton last Tuesday for its second straight win in as many outings.
Blaze Spikers head coach Shaq Delos Santos warns his wards that it’s not just only Mau that makes the Cargo Movers dangerous.
“Malaking bagay si Mau pero always namang contender yung team nila at laging kailangan paghandaan,” Delos Santos said. “Kung nag effort kami ngayon, triplehin dapat namin. Pagaaralan namin sila ng mabuti. And sigurado, paghahandaan din nila kami.“
Petron is banking on its championship core bannered by Ces Molina, Mika Reyes, Bernadeth Pons, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Sisi Rondina, Rhea Dimaculangan and Denden Lazaro.
Meanwhile, Cignal (1-0) eyes its second win against surging PLDT (2-1) at 4:15 p.m.
