BACOOR City — Petron secured the No. 1 spot in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference, defeating Foton, 25-10, 20-25, 25-16, 25-8, on Tuesday at Bacoor Strike Gym.

Bernadeth Pons tallied 16 points, built on 14 spikes, and delivered 21 digs for the Blaze Spikers, who remained undefeated in nine outings.

Petron will face Smart on Saturday to wrap up the preliminary round.

“Honestly speaking hindi (ko expected) kasi itong league na ito hindi siya ganoon kadali para magawa mo ‘yun (maging No. 1),” said Blaze Spikers coach Shaq delos Santos.

“After this, sabi ko nga, dapat mag triple time pa kami kasi definitely mas magiging matindi ang labanan,” he added.

Petron, which asserted its master of Foton, lost the second set but delos Santos was pleased to see his wards make up for what they lacked.

“Talo kami sa second set pero ang good thing dito may natututunan kami,” he said. “Sa pagkatalo ng isang set, nakaka-bounce back sa susunod na set.”
