CAGAYAN DE ORO — Defending champion Petron battles Foton in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Corpus Christi Gym.
F2 Logistics tries to bounce back when it takes on PLDT in the first PSL match in Cagayan de Oro at 4 p.m. before the Petron-Foton showdown at 6 o’clock.
The Blaze Spikers lead the league with a 12-1 win-loss record, extending their win streak to 10 with a five-set win over the erstwhile unbeaten Cargo Movers.
As Petron plays its last preliminary round match, coach Shaq Delos Santos wants to give their fans in Cagayan de Oro a match to remember.
“Inspired yung whole team at ibibigay namin ang best namin sa CDO kasi maraming fans na naghihintay,” said Delos Santos, whose squad features Petron’s Sisi Rondina, Bernadeth Pons, Ces Molina, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Mika Reyes, Rhea Dimaculangan and Denden Lazaro.
“Hopefully, maibigay namin yung best namin para menjoy nila yung panonood.”
Foton, featuring Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat, with Shaya Adorador, Mina Aganon, Elaine Kasilag, Gyselle Sy and Jen Reyes, seeks to pull off an upset to improve their 7-5 record at No. 4 and steal the third spot from idle Generika-Ayala (8-6).
F2 is in second at 11-1, while PLDT holds a 5-8 card.
Coach Ramil De Jesus expects the Cargo Movers to quickly bounce back from their first loss of the season.
The team led by Kalei Mau, Aby Marano and Ara Galang arrived in Cagayan de Oro on Friday afternoon, trained in the evening and again on Saturday morning.
PLDT, meanwhile, is coming off a four-set win over Generika-Ayala, although with a 5-8 win-loss record, coach Roger Gorayeb accepts they finish no better than sixth.
“Hindi naman na kami aangat. Kaya lang yung confidence namin ibalik namin at bigyan ng magandang laban yung mga fans dito,” Gorayeb said.
