DEFENDING champion turned its game against Sta. Lucia into a workout, 25-17, 25-11, 25-19, on Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan.
Kath Bell was impressive on both offense and defense with 19 points and 17 digs, while Stephanie Nimer had 16 markers in the match that took an hour and 19 minutes to finish for the Blaze Spikers, who will start their best-of-three semis campaign next week.
Petron’s opponent will be the winner between Cignal and United VC.
“Happy syempre kasi pasok na ulit kami sa semifinals and isa ‘yun sa goal namin,” said Petron coach Shaq delos Santos. “Proper recovery [ang kailangan namin] and syempre ‘yung training namin mas i-angat pa namin, workd hard, double time talaga.”
The Blaze Spikers remained undefeated after 15 games but delos Santos was quick to mention that it’s not enough for them to slack off.
“Of course mas kailangan namin magfocus kasi importante lahat ng games,” he said. “Mas mag-all out pa kami and I know na may ilalabas pa ang team namin.”
Casey Schoenlein made 12 points for Sta. Lucia, which ended its campaign with a 2-13 win-loss slate.
