PETRON looks to complete an unbeaten run to the title as the Blaze Spikers take on the Shopinas Clickers on Thursday in the second match of the best-of-three finals of the PSL All Filipino Conference at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Blaze Spikers have won all their 12 matches this conference and a 13th victory will earn them a second straight title after topping the PSL Grand Prix.
Shopinas actually came up with a tough stand against Petron in their first encounter in the eliminations, stretching the match to five sets before bowing out.
But the Lady Clickers have failed to put up a fight in their last two matches against the team led by Rachel Anne Daquis, Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Aby Marano, including the opener of the title series won by the Blaze Spikers in three quick sets.
Now coach George Pascua expects no let up from the Blaze Spikers in the match that starts at 4:15 p.m.
"Winning the title has been our goal right from the start," said Pascua. "Since we're already moving closer to our goal, I told them to get it on Thursday. We have to remain consistent and sustain the momentum if we want to win another crown."
Should the Lady Clickers succeed in besmirching the Blaze Spikers’ record, they will be able to drag their fan favorite foes to a deciding Game Three at the Alonte Sports Complex in Laguna.
Shopinas coach Ramil de Jesus, the architect behind La Salle's numerous titles in the UAAP, said they have put the sorry setback behind them and are ready to move on with an improved performance in the second match.
"We went back to the drawing board and charted the plays that made us successful in the past," said de Jesus, who steered the core of the Lady Archers to three consecutive bridesmaid trophies. "We just have to come up with better reception and correct our mistakes. This series is still anybody's ballgame. We will be ready."
De Jesus is hoping to get contributions from other players this time after Cha Cruz emerged as the lone bright spot in the series opener at the Imus Sports Complex in Cavite, registering 12 kills to finish with 13 points, while the other half of their spiking duo, Stephanie Mercado, had a dismal six markers for the Lady Clickers.
