PETRON came back to life in the nick of time, scoring a 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-19 win over F2 Logistics on Thursday to force a Game 3 decider for the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix championship at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Blaze Spikers lost Game One badly to see an end to a 17-game unbeaten run and trailed by one set in Game Two. But they woke up from the stupor from the second set on to force a winner take all match on Saturday.
Katherine Bell unleashed 25 points laced with 24 digs while Stephanie Niemer put up 23 hits including 20 digs. Mika Reyes made seven kills, four blocks and a pair of service aces for 13 points, while Aiza Maizo-Pontillas had seven markers.
Setter Rhea Dimaculangan made 29 excellent sets.
“For us in-accept namin 'yung (Game One loss) as a challenge talaga. Wake-up call para sa amin,” said Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos.
“Nag-open forum lang kami, hinayaan ko i-express lahat ng feelings nila, hindi pwedeng makimkim. Siyempre, the more na nailalabas nila yung feelings nila, mas nafi-feel namin yung isa’t isa.”
Delos Santos lamented another slow start that cost them the first set. But the Blaze Spikers played with more urgency as the second set rolled along and lessened their errors, committing only 16 miscues this time.
MJ Perez and Lindsay Stalzer carried the loads of F2 Logistics anew with 24 and 21 points, respectively. Majoy Baron and Ara Galang had eight points each, while libero Dawn Macandili had 26 digs and 18 excellent receptions.
