PETRON turned back arch-rival F2 Logistics, 25-22, 26-24, 25-23, to repeat as Philippine Super Liga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference champion on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Bernadeth Pons led the way as Petron won its fourth title overall to bolster its reputation as the top club team in the PSL.
Best opposite spiker Maizo-Pontillas finished with 13 points, while Pons added 11 markers and Most Valuable Player Rhea Dimaculangan registered 31 of the team’s 53 excellent sets in the match that took almost two hours to finish.
“Marami kaming pinagdaanan, ‘yung sweep kasi hindi ko iniisip ‘yun kasi hindi siya madali sa conference na ‘to,” said Petron coach Shaq delos Santos.
The Blaze Spikers also won the 2015 AFC via a 13-0 season sweep followed by victories in the 2017 AFC championship and the 2018 Grand Prix.
Petron took Game One, 23-25, 11-25, 17-25, before F2 Logistics evened struck back with a 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 win in Game Two, in the process denying the Blaze Spikers of a conference sweep.
“Syempre nagkaroon ng magandang result ‘yung pinaghirapan naming lahat,” said delos Santos.
“Nakaka-proud kasi hindi sila mahirap kausap, kung ano ‘yung gusto namin [coaching staff] mangyari] doon din sila,” he added.
Team captain Cha Cruz-Behag and Ara Galang each had 10 markers for F2 Logistics.
