POWERHOUSE Petron shrugged off a first-set wobble to beat Cignal HD, 23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-11 in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference on Thursday at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
Dindin Santiago-Manabat registered 13 kills and six service aces to pace the Blaze Spikers, who tightened their hold on the leadership with their fourth consecutive victory.
But the win didn't come easy.
Petron started the game cold, committing six service errors and four unforced errors early on that allowed the HD Spikers to take an early lead.
"Our errors made it difficult for us in the first set," said Petron coach George Pascua.
Petron, however, quickly turned the match around as soon as Manabat, Aby Marano and Rachel Ann Daquis started to heat up.
"The true performance of the girls showed when they started to overcome their errors in the second and third sets. Then, I told them to have fun in the fourth (set), but make sure that they get the job done," said Pascua.
Marano chipped in 15 points while Daquis had 10 markers for the Blaze Spikers, who moved a win shy of completing a sweep of the first round.
On the other hand, Carmela Tunay and Jeanette Panaga were the only bright sports for Cignal, finishing with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The HD Spikers joined Mane 'N Tail and Philips Gold at the cellar with a 1-3 win-loss card.
