DEFENDING champion Petron advanced to the semifinals as it knocked out Marinerang Pilipina, 25-18, 25-13, 25-11, on Thursday in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
The top-seeded Blaze Spikers extended their win streak to 12, while the Lady Skippers ended their stint winless in 15 matches.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas came up big after struggling in the past few games, scoring 15 points and making 12 digs to lead the Blaze Spikers.
Bernadeth Pons scored 13, Ces Molina added 11 and Sisi Rondina had nine markers.
Rhea Dimaculangan dished out 27 excellent sets on top of three markers as Petron stopped the league newcomers in one hour and 25 minutes.
“Siyempre sobrang laki nito kasi lahat naman ng teams ito yung goal makarating sa ganitong status,” said Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos. “Ngayon nandito na kami kailangan mas maging eager pa kami na pagandahin yung takbo ng team namin kasi siyempre pinaghirapan naman namin ito.”
Petron will have a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals facing either Generika-Ayala or Cignal, who clash on Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The semifinals will be played on Tuesday at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.
The Blaze Spikers committed only six errors, the least miscues committed in a match this season. Petron dominated the Lady Skippers in attacking with a 52-27 differential, blocking (10-3) and nailed seven aces.
Marinerang Pilipina failed to score a single ace in the match and nobody scored in double figures as Dimdim Pacres and Judith Abil led the team with seven points apiece.
