PETRON and Cagayan Valley battle for pride as the two teams face each other Wednesday in the final elimination playdate of the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference at the Astrodome.
The Blaze Spikers and Lady Rising Suns face each other at 2 p.m., with the winner clinching fifth place and a slight consolation for failing to advance past the knockout quarterfinals.
Petron fell at the hands of PLDT Home TVolution, while Cagayan went down against AirAsia.
Led by rookie top pick Dindin Santiago, who averaged 24.8 points per game, Petron ran out of gas against the Power Attackers, 25-16, 21-25, 18-25, 22-25.
“Hindi kami naka-adjust sa depensa nila," said Petron coach George Pascua. "So babawi na lang kami sa battle for 5th (place) against Cagayan Valley. May isang laro pa. Doon na lang namin ibuhuhos lahat ng frustrations namin. It's now or never for us."
Cagayan coach Nes Pamilar, whose girls to league new comer AirAsia, 25-16, 25-16, 16-15, 17-25, 13-15, also vowed to give their all-out to achieve a respectable finish.
"Masakit ang pagkatalong 'yun sa amin," said Pamilar. "Dahil dun, mas pine-pressure namin ang sarili namin na makuha ang 5th place. Kaya dapat mas ayusin pa namin ang atake at reception namin dahil hindi madaling kalaban ang Petron."
Meanwhile, Cignal and Instituto Estetico Manila collide at 4 p.m., while PLDT Home TVolution-Air Force guns for a sweep of the elims as it faces Systema at 6 p.m.
The HD Spikers (5-2) and the Power Attackers (7-0) already secured a Finals showdown on July 26 (Saturday).
