PETRON swept past also-ran Marinerang Pilipina, 25-22, 25-22, 25-8, to complete the semifinals cast in Pool C in the Philippine Superliga Invitationals on Thursday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan.
Ces Molina and Sisi Rondina fueled the offense for the Blaze Spikers, who won their fourth straight game to join fellow unbeaten side Cignal (5-0) in the semifinals, booting out PLDT (1-3) in the process.
The Blaze Spikers and HD Spikers clash for the No. 1 spot of Pool C on Saturday in Caloocan City.
National player Molina put up 12 points off 10 attacks, a blocks and an ace. Rondina delivered 11 points and 19 digs, while Bernadeth Pons and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas added nine markers apiece for Petron.
“I think hindi naging madali para sa amin na talunin 'yung Marinera,” Molina said. “Nakita rin namin na pinahirapan nila kami and binigay din nila 'yung best nila sa laro na 'to.”
Petron needed to win tight battles against Marinerang Pilipina in the first two sets before the Blaze Spikers dominated the third frame by a mile.
Cesca Racraquin led the gallant fight of the Lady Skippers, who lost their fifth straight game and 20th in a row dating back to the All-Filipino Conference.
