SUPER imports Stephanie Niemer and Katherine Bell once again powered Petron in a 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 domination of Generika-Ayala to bag its second straight win in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
The American imports continued their domination for the Blaze Spikers to dispatch the Lifesavers in straight sets in just 90 minutes.
Niemer showed the way with game-high 24 points off 19 spikes, three service aces and two blocks. Bell scattered 18 kills, a pair of aces and a block for 21 points to go with 11 digs.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas also shone with eight markers including 11 digs and nine excellent receptions, while setter Rhea Dimaculangan dished out 28 excellent sets as Petron forced a share of the lead with F2 Logistics holding identical 2-0 win-loss records.
“Ako personally naniniwala ako na may ilalabas pa yung dalawa because experienced players na sila, they know how to handle yung mga crucial games and mga ganoong sitwasyon,” said Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos. “Siyempre malaki din yung tiwala ko sa mga local players namin kasi alam din namin siya kung paano sila magtrabaho.“
Petron eyes its third win against Foton (1-0) on Saturday, 6 p.m., at the Bacoor Strike Gym.
The Blaze Spikers started strong and finished stronger in the third wet, where they built an 18-12 spread through the troika of Niemer, Bell and Pontillas. The two imports nailed the killer blows to seal their second victory.
Petron squandered a 23-19 lead in the second set as Generika-Ayala, led by lone import Kseniya Kocyigit, scored four straight points and tied the set to 23-all only for Bell to put her team at set point before an attack error from their foes that let them escape with a two-set lead.
Patty Orendain carried Generika-Ayala with 12 points jncluding 12 digs and 10 excellent receptions, while Kocyigit, Ria Meneses and Fiola Ceballos added seven each as pther importe Nikolle Del Rio sat out due to the ankle injury she suffered last Saturday.
Generika-Ayala takes on winless PLDT (0-2) also on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. in Bacoor City.
