CIGNAL avenged an elimination-round loss to Petron, 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 25-19, to inch closer to the title in the Belo-Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Anne Daquis took took turns bombarding the Petron defense, combining for 31 points for the HD Spikers in a match that took almost two hours to finish.
“Hopefully magtuluy-tuloy kasi ito ang turning point namin sa Petron, kasi sila lang ang nakatalo sa amin sa elimination,” said Cignal coach George Pascua after a victory against his former team.
“Sa akin naman normal game lang ito kasi dati team ko naman ‘yun eh, syempre bilang professional balansehin mo rin kung saang team ka kailangan,” he added.
The HD Spikers are now 1-0 in the final round and will face Foton on Friday before taking on Japanese guest team Kobe Shinwa University on Saturday.
The team with the best win-loss record at the end of the final round wins the championship.
Mela Tunay, who came off the bench, finished with 10 points for Petron.
