Petron is vying for a back-to-back title in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix and San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua reminded the Blaze Spikers to just enjoy the game and forget any worry they have.
Days before the best-of-three finals series with F2 Logistics, Chua made sure to give the girls some pep talk to boost their morale.
“They’ve been there before, they know already the feeling of a championship. So [I told them] hindi na kayo dapat kabahan, I told them to just play relaxed and face the [finals] as a normal game,” he said.
Juggling his duties for all the SMC teams, Chua makes sure to always keep an eye on Petron starting from the recruitment to offseason preparation.
He also kept track of the Blaze Spikers’ preliminary round despite his busy schedule of being the board of governor for Ginebra in the PBA and now two other SMC teams - Magnolia and San Miguel - are in the PBA Philippine Cup finals.
“I told them the elimination is done, everything is finished, now this is a new start of the game, it’s the finals,” he said.
“So [they must] forget about the no-loss [preliminary round], I don’t care about that anymore, let’s concentrate on the championship,” he added.
When asked about the reward, Chua stressed that it will come but after the series is over.
“I don’t announce the reward middle or before the game, I always reward after the game,” he said. “Because I don’t want them to feel so excited on what’s gonna happen. I’m just gonna give them the award me and my boss RSA (Ramon S. Ang, San Miguel Corp. president and chief operating officer) think [they deserve].”
