PETRO Gazz subdued the Tacloban Fighting Warays in straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-21, in the round-robin quarterfinals of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Olena Lymareva-Flink led the Angels with 22 points, from 15 attacks, six services aces, and one block in an outstanding performance, while Rica Jane Enclona and Cienne Cruz also posted 11 and 9 digs apiece.
Petro Gazz coach Jerry Yee expressed his satisfaction over the team's redemption after losing their first match in the quarterfinals.
"Nung first game, medyo bumitaw kami eh, nagkaroon kami ng conflict within the team, pero naayos naman na ngayon... May bago kaming rotation, sana magtuloy-tuloy," he said.
The third set saw a see-saw battle between both teams that were in a 15-all deadlock, before the Angels turned it up a notch to ice the win and stop the Fighting Warays from extending the game.
Hyapha Amporn made 16 points for the Fighting Warays, while Team Captain Jovielyn Prado added seven.
The victory locked both teams in a tie with a 1-1 card.
