THE second round of the Super Liga Grand Prix eliminations gets underway and unbeaten Petron tries to hold off its vengeful rivals starting with Cignal on Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The twin towers of 6-foot-3 Alaina Bergsma and 6-foot-2 Dindin Santiago powered the Blaze Spikers cruised to four straight wins. Santiago missed their fifth match as she played for Army in the V-League final, but Bergsma and the Blaze Spikers still proved too much for lowly Foton and completed a first round sweep.

Now they battle a Cignal HD side aching to get back after suffering a three-set loss in the first round. The match starts at 2 p.m.

"We learned a lot from that loss, ang daming lapses and I hope we can get back," said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar.

The HD Lady Spikers are in tied for second spot with RC Cola Air Force at 3-2.

Meanwhile, Foton and Generika look to score back-to-back when they collide at 4 p.m.

The Tornadoes (1-5) beat Mane ‘N Tail in straight sets to end the first round with a bang and now hope to move up the standings, but the Life Savers (2-3)also recently got a big boost in morale with a straight-sets win over Cignal.

“From the bottom maganda ang pag-peak namin, hopefuly magtuluy-tuloy na,” said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon.

In the men’s division, two-time champion PLDT Air Force and Cignal meet at 6 p.m.

The HD Spikers are on top with a 3-0 card, while the Power Attackers are running second at 1-0.
