Foton recovers from two sets down to pull off shock win over RC Cola Air Force

FOTON fought back from two sets down to stun RC Cola Air Force, 22-25, 15-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-11, on Saturday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Russian imports Irina and Elena Tarasova came up with 29 and 25 points, respectively, as the Tornadoes scored only its second win in eight matches.

The Raiders suffered their third loss in six matches, allowing Generika to gain a share of second spot behind unbeaten Petron (6-0).

"We are just taking one game at a time," said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon. "We are a raw team and every win is important to us."

"We practice hard everyday, even if may game (kinabukasan) may practice kami, we want to see results… Winning this game is a feat for us, if we win again that's another feat."

Down by one , 6-7, in the fifth set, Foton scored five straight points to take the lead, 11-7, behind Donna Mae Factor, Rubie de Leon and Irina Tarasova.

RC Cola kept it close, 11-13, but Elena Tarasova blocked Joy Cases' spike and Irina Tarasova scored on a power hit to seal the victory.

Iari Yongco scored 18 points for RC Cola Air Force,  American reinforcements Emily Brown and Bonita Wise each had 16, and Cases added 13.
