FOTON beat Mane ‘N Tail, 25-23, 18-25, 17-25, 25-12, 15-12, on Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome to salvage fifth spot in the six team Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix.

Irina Tarasova scored 33 points on 26 spikes, three blocks and four service aces for the Tornadoes, while Dzi Gervacio and Elena Tarasova added 13 and 12 markers, respectively.

Mane 'N Tail head coach Francis Vicente was not present during the match as he was in the UAAP to call the shots for Universty of the East.

It was a fine finish for the Tornadoes, who had only three wins in the 10-match eliminations. But coach Vilet Ponce de Leon noted that those wins were big, and that they are also proud to have taken a set from top team Petron.

“Masarap sana mag-achieve ng mas mataas,” said De Leon. “Satisfied na rin ako kasi nanalo kami sa Cignal, Mane 'N Tail and Air Force, we even won a set over Petron.”

“We could have aimed higher but as of now since late kami nabuo we only aim to perform good and we reached that,” she added.

Foton took a 9-5 lead in the fifth set behind Irina Tarasova and Gervacio. Mane ‘N Tail closed in 10-12, but Foton scored a point and Jaeckel committed untimely errors to hand Foton the win.

Jaeckel had 41 points to set a new league record, improving on the 40 points she set their match against Generika on November 5.
