SHOPINAS.COM looked set to score an easy win but was made to sweat by Cignal in the third before claiming a 25-18, 25-17, 30-28, victory on Monday to end the first round of elimination of the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at the Cuneta Astrodome.

After two quick sets, the Lady Clickers found themselves in a tough fight, needing 35 minutes to take the third set and snap a two-match skid.

New PSL ambassadress Cha Cruz had an all-around game with eight spikes, two blocks and three service aces, while Paneng Mercado scored 11 and Rizza Mandapat added 10 for the Lady Clickers. coach Ramil de Jesus ran out of timeouts early in the third as the HD Spikers erased a five-point deficit, 17-22, to tie the match, 22-22.

A see-saw battle ensued before Arianna Angustia scored at the net after a bad Cignal reception and Mandapat sealed the win with a through the block attack.

“Tagalang gamble na ako kanina, full of confidence ang Cignal kaya maaga naubos ang timeout ko,” said coach Ramil de Jesus. “Kasi nakuha nila ang momentum mahirap para sa side namin.”

“Kung gusto mo manalo paninindigan mong mananalo ka, kailangan bumalik ang kumpyansa sa game,” said de Jesus.

Former Far Eastern University standout Cherry May Vivas scored 11 points for Cignal, which dropped to the bottom of the pack with Mane ‘N Tail at 1-4.
