CAMP director Sammy Acaylar was unimpressed despite drawing a stellar cast of rookies in the 2016 Philippine Super Liga rookie camp on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

A total of 22 players attended the camp, including La Salle star Ara Galang, Arellano U standouts CJ Rosario, Dana Henson, Angelica Legacion and Shirley Salamagos, but Acaylar was still unsatisfied as less than half of the lot managed to make it past the high standards he set.

“To tell you frankly, hindi ako satisfied doon sa dumating na mga participants,” said the veteran mentor, who refused to bare the names of those who passed the test. “But then there are 12 players na pwedeng talagang isama doon sa drafting,’ he said.

“Mataas ang standards natin kasi this is Super Liga. Alam naman natin ang Super Liga, mataas ang standard nila and of course the companies, gusto nila malalakas talaga ang mapunta sa kanila,” he added.

One thing that pleased Acaylar, however, is the turnout of players from provinces even as far as Samar and Cebu who joined the rookie camp.

“Although I’m happy kasi may galing sa Samar, may galing sa Bulacan, merong Cavite na nagpunta, kaya lang (‘yung iba) ‘yung skills nila hindi aabot doon sa gusto natin mangyari,” he said.

The PSL Rookie draft is set on Friday at SM Aura.
