RC Cola begins campaign with narrow victory, keeps Meralco winless in Super Liga

RC Cola-Air Force had a rough start but still came away with a victory, downing winless Meralco, 25-22, 17-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-13, on Thursday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan.

Brazilian import Lynda Morales scored 26 points, while Sara McClinton of the US had 20 for the Raiders, who just started the new campaign on the third playdate of the tournament.

"We had an opening-game jitters and we lost our receives in the second and third sets. But fortunately, we managed to pull it through,” said RC Cola-Air Force coach Rhovyl Verayo.

“It may not be the most impressive performance, but at least we still managed to win," he added.

Import Christina Alessi, who played limited minutes in Meralco’s match against Petron two days ago due to a sprained ankle, sat out the match against RC Cola.

 Still, the Raiders had a tough time finishing off the Power Spikers.

“We still have a lot to improve on. Hopefully, we can pull off an easier victory next time."

“Lynda was phenomenal. But we needed to receive in order to maximize her strength.”

Meralco’s Estonian reinforcement Liis Kullerkan scored 18 points, while Mika Reyes chipped in 15 markers.

Meralco absorbed its third loss in as many matches.
