STANDARD Insurance Navy grinded out a win over Cignal, 36-38, 25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 15-8, in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) at the San Juan Arena on Wednesday.

Pau Soriano led all scorers with 23 points, including three blocks. But it was Lilet Mabbayad who sealed the victory in the match that lasted for more than two hours.

Jonah Sabete finished with 14 points, while Mabbayad had 13 for the Lady Corvettes, who improved to 2-2.

"Masaya yung feeling kasi alam mong pinaghirapan ng mga bata yung panalo. Sila mismo hindi inasahang manalo," said Navy coach Zenaida Chavez.

The HD Spikers, meanwhile, remained winless in four outings.

Cignal had the chance to finish off Navy but dropped the fourth set despite opening the frame with guns ablaze, 6-1.

Cherry Vivas and Jannine Navarro paced Cignal with 18 points apiece.
