THE Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference begins on Tuesday with a record eight teams participating in the flagship tournament.

The All-Filipino showdown opens at the Filoil Flying V Centre with Foton facing off against newcomer Cherrylume at 5 p.m., while Cocolife takes on Generika Ayala at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Thursday's game day at the Filoil Flying V Centre will feature a tripleheader with Sta. Lucia going up against Cignal HD at 3 p.m., and Cherrylume competing against Cocolife at 5 p.m.

Reigning champion F2 Logistics, forming the core of recently-crowned UAAP champion La Salle, meantime, open its title defense against former Lady Spiker Mika Reyes and Petron at 7 p.m.

League officials hailed the record number of participants in the coming conference of the league that is now being labeled as the 'Home of the Elite.'

"We are very excited that we now have eight teams participating," said PSL commissioner Ian Laurel. "We would normally have six, we had one conference where we had seven, but now, we have an ideal number and it could grow. We hope it grows."

While the conference opens on Tuesday, formal opening ceremonies will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. before Generika Ayala battles Foton at 5 p.m., and Cignal HD faces Petron at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Meanwhile, 50 percent of the proceeds of Tuesday's and Thursday's matches will go to the medical expenses of Olympic table tennis player Ian Lariba, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
