PHILIPS Gold kept alive its bid for an outright semifinal spot after an easy win over sister team Mane ‘N Tail, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20, in the Lady Slammers’ final elimination-round match in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference on Monday at Cuneta Astrodome.

Rossan Fajardo scored 12 points, Myla Pablo added 10 and skipper Michele Gumabao chipped in nine as the Lady Slammers evened their record to 5-5.

Philips Gold is still mathematically in the hunt for an outright semifinal berth, but the chances rest on the results of other teams’ final elimination-round matches.

Unbeaten Petron was first to the semifinals, while still in the hunt for the outright spot in the last four are Shopinas and Foton.

The top two teams advance outright to the semifinals, while the remaining four battle in the knockout quarterfinals.

“Sinadya namin na i-three sets lang para makahabol kami sa ranking points,” said Philips Gold coach Francis Vicente. “Ang habol namin makapasok ng semifinals.”

After three consecutive five-set matches, the Lady Slammers finally got a much needed rest on Sunday and entered the match on Monday refreshed, needing just an hour and 26 minutes to take the win.

Abi Praca scored 16 points, while Danika Gendrauli added 10 for Mane ‘N Tail, which dropped to 2-7.
