PHILIPS Gold fought back from two sets down to slam the door on RC Cola-Air Force, 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-8, in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.

American reinforcements Alexis Olgard and Bojana Todorovic led the way while hard-hitting local Myla Pablo joined the scoring rampage as the Lady Slammers completed the dramatic fightback to move up to solo second spot with a 3-1 win-loss slate.

Olgard, a 6-foot-5 middle blocker from University of Southern California, scored 27 points while Todorovic had 25 points. Pablo was not too far behind with 17 markers.

"We know that RC Cola-Air Force will bounce back, so I told the team that we have to be ready. We cannot be complacent against them," said Philips Gold coach Francis Vicente.

"RC Cola just came from a loss. We know they are hungry to win. So we gave our best and paid special attention to our reception and blocking to shut down their imports. Fortunately, everything went according to plan."

Philips Gold took a slim lead in the final set, 8-7, before the Raiders became careless and committed too many turnovers.

Vicente again credited Todorovic, who used to play libero in the Division I of US NCAA.

"She is a leader. She is very talkative and passionate. Being a former libero, she's also very vocal. And she's whom we need, especially when the game is on the line," said the veteran coach.

"Gumanda ang receiving namin, so nase-set namin ng maayos at gumana ang middle hitters namin."

Morales delivered 21 kills and five aces for a total of 27 points while McClinton added 13 kills to finish with 16 points for RC Cola-Air Force, which slipped to fifth place with a 1-2 card.
