IMUS CITY — Excitement hit fever pitch on Monday as this historic city get ready to host its first-ever Philippine Super Liga match.

The sight of a packed Imus Sports Complex, with hundreds more waiting outside, greeted the PSL delegation ahead of Game One of the All-Filipino Cup Finals between Petron and Shopinas.

Free tickets were given away for the opener of the best-of-three title series while a giant screen was set up just outside the venue for those unable get in.

Imus mayor Emmanuel Maliksi said he is happy with the warm reception, saying it should be enough to convince the PSL to bring another game to this city where the first Philippine flag was unfurled.

“Isa pong karangalan na tayo ang maging host ng Super Liga,” said Maliksi in a short press conference before the start of Game One. “At ang ating pangarap sa susunod ay magkaroon uli kami ng pagkakataon na mag-host uli sa ating venue ng isang napaka-prestihiyosong event.”

PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico said they are inclined to play matches again in Imus.

“Isang karangalan na maanyayahan kami sa Imus. Of course, as long as we are welcome here and we see a lot of people enjoying the games, we will be here again,” Juico said.
