Petron not easing up on gas as Blaze Spikers look to close out PSL title series against F2
The Blaze Spikers won in straight sets bu expect a tough stand by the Cargo Movers in the second match.

PETRON is one win away from ending a two-year title drought, and the streaking Blaze Spikers are not about to ease up on the gas.

The Blaze Spikers won the opener of the best-of-three Super Liga All Filipino title series against F2 in straight sets but coach Shaq delos Santos says they approach the second match with a must-win mentality.

“Kailangan bumalik kami, back to zero, ‘wag natin iconsider na panalo kami ng Game One,” said the veteran mentor.

Delos Santos, wary that his team might turn complacent, reminded the Blaze Spikers getting the three more sets needed to claim the title will be much tougher against F2.

“Naging magandang experience sa amin na naipanalo ‘yung Game One but, of course, kailangan sa Game Two mas paghirapan pa namin,” he said.

Although skipper Ces Molina was the lone player to reach double figures, all but one scoring player fielded delivered at least a point.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Bernadeth Pons and Mika Reyes shone for Petron, which had more attacks, 37-29,  as seasoned setter Rhea Dimaculangan choreographed the team’s offense.

Dimaculangan had 20 of the team’s 32 excellent sets compared to the 18 of F2 Logistics star Kim Fajardo.

“Pagpaplanuhan namin mga coaches (ang training for Game Two). Kasi syempre kahit straight sets ‘yun kung makikita natin all out (and players) eh, intense ‘yung galawan,” he said.
