PETRON spoiled Foton’s bid of a preliminary round sweep via a thrilling 25-20, 18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11 win in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at Batangas City Coliseum.

Coming from a painful loss to Cignal on Thursday, the Blaze Spikers used all their arsenal to improve to 4-2 win-loss record in Pool C.

Veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas led the way for Petron, while young guns Sisi Rondina, Ria Meneses, Bernadeth Pons and Toni Rose Basas added the firepower to deal Foton its first loss in six outings.

Petron trailed, 7-8, in the fifth set before it countered with a 6-2 spurt to take the lead, 13-10.

Jaja Santiago scored on an attack after a timeout called by Foton coach Moro Branislav, but Basas pushed Petron at match point and Meneses sealed the win with a powerful spike.
