Petron, Foton begin showdown for Super Liga Grand Prix crown

FOTON looks to assert its supremacy as Petron tries to end a run of futility as Philippine Superliga Grand Prix finals get going on Thursday in the at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tri-Activ Spikers and Tornadoes clash at 7 p.m. after the 5 o’clock match between F2 Logistics and RC Cola-Army, which are battling for third place.

Foton, which beat Petron the finals last year, breezed through the preliminaries with 9-1 win-loss card, before pulling off a five-set win over RC Cola-Army in the semifinals.

The Tornadoes, led by American import Lindsay Stalzer, also prevailed over the Tri-Activ Spikers twice in the preliminaries.

Stephanie Niemer, meanwhile, hopes Petron has figured out a way to stop Foton, which also has Ariel Usher and the Santiago sisters Dindin and Jaja.

Niemer will lean on Serena Warner, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Ces Molina and defensive specialists Jen Reyes and Bang Pineda.

Action will be shown live over AksyonTV and Hyper.
