DESPITE working with the team for over a month, Foton imports Lindsay Stalzer and Ariel Usher insist that the Tornadoes will not be overconfident in their bid to defend their title in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix, which kicks off on Saturday.

The two hard-hitting American reinforcements saw action in the 2016 AVC Asian Women’s Club Championship from September 3-11 with the Foton core Jaja Santiago, Sisi Rondina, Rhea Dimaculangan and Maika Ortiz.

But Stalzer, who steered Foton to the title last year over then defending champion Petron led by Brazilian imports Erica Adachi and Rupia Inck, is not keeping her guards down.

“Last year, Petron has the same advantage and they made it to the Finals but obviously we beat them,’ she said drawing laughter from everyone inside Center Stage in Mall of Asia during the press conference on Thursday.

“So hopefully we won’t repeat that pattern but we’ll see,” she added.

Meanwhile, Usher felt that being together with her new teammates for such a long time can both be beneficial to their chemistry, and at the same time be detrimental in giving the team a false sense of security.

“I think we’ve talked about it in the team. Yeah, we have been playing together, we have been practicing together but we don’t allow that to (distract) us,” said Usher, who suited up for Cignal last year.

“We make sure that we maintain our chemistry and we continue to get better and practice. So yeah it’s a good thing and it’s also a bad thing,” she added.

Completing the team are EJ Laure, Patty Orendain, Angeli Araneta, Ivy Perez, Cara Acevedo, Bia General, Carol Cerveza and returning Dindin Santiago-Manabat, who played for Petron for three conferences but missed the All Filipino due to her pregnancy.
