FOTON survived Generika-Ayala, 19-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15, 15-7, on Thursday in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tornadoes scored their fifth win in as many matches to stay on top of Pool C, and will face the No. 4 team in Pool D in the crossover quarterfinals.

Jaja Santiago finished with 26 points, from 19 kills, two blocks and five service aces, for Foton. EJ Laure had an all-around game of 20 markers, 18 of which from spikes, 11 digs and 12 excellent receptions for the Tornadoes in a match that took almost two hours to finish.

Still, Foton’s Serbian mentor Moro Branislav rued his team’s lack of aggressiveness and only exerted effort when they were already down by two sets to none.

“Every time we play against Generika we have a problem,” he said. “My players, overtime, they play a little easy and not to their full potential.”

“It’s normal to play in five sets but what’s not normal is that Foton did not play well today, they only played well in the last two sets,” Branislav added.

Fiola Ceballos made 18 points for Generika-Ayala, while Patty Jane Orendain and skipper Geneveve Casugod added 15 and 13 markers, respectively.

The Life Savers slid to 2-3.
