Foton vents ire on lowly Cignal, scores straight-sets win in second half of back-to-back set
Jaja Santiago shows the way as Foton quickly recovers from a big loss. 

FOTON came up with a strong performance less than 24 hours after absorbing a deflating loss, drubbing Cignal, 25-20, 25-21, 25-9, on Sunday in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Sunday.

The Tornadoes, who lost a four-set match to RC Cola Army on Saturday, vented their ire on the HD Spikers and took the win in one hour and 14 minutes.

Jaja Santiago scored 14 points and Cherry Rondina added 10 as Foton evened its win-loss record, 3-3.

Skipper Angeli Araneta had nine markers and Maika Ortiz chipped in six for the Tornadoes, who capitalized on Cignal’s poor reception and had six service aces.

“’Yung team nag-step up sa gusto namin mangyari kasi hindi kami natuwa sa previous game namin,” said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon. “Make or break kami ngayon so sabi ko patunayan nila sa performance nila ngayon.”

“So far happy naman kami doon sa development compared sa mga first games namin, ngayon paangat na game namin, siguro 85-90 percent na kami maganda nga ang mangyayarai pe-paek kami towards second round,” she added.

Cherry May Vivas scored 11 and Jeanette Panaga had nine markers for the HD Spikers, who absorbed a quick loss after recording their first win on Saturday at the expense of Generika. Cignal now holds a 1-5 record.
