Petron turns back depleted Foton to keep Super Liga Invitational title hopes alive

PETRON came from a set down to turn back Foton, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21, and even its record in the final round of the Belo-Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas finished with 15 points for the Blaze Spikers, who improved to 1-1.

Skipper Ces Molina added 13 for Petron, Mina Aganon chipped in 12 and Mika Reyes had 10.

Coming from a stunning loss to Cignal on Thursday, Petron kept its championship hopes alive and will face Kobe Shinwa University (1-0) on Saturday.

Playing without the injured Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Foton remained winless in the final round and has been eliminated from the title race.

The Japanese guest team is playing Cignal (1-0) as of posting time.
