IT’S payback time.

In a way, Foton’s stunning win over Petron for the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix title on Saturday somehow redeemed University of Santo Tomas from its heartbreaking loss to Far Eastern University during the deciding game of this year’s UAAP men’s basketball finals.

UST alumnus Vilet Ponce de Leon led Foton to a masterful  25-18, 25-18, 25-17 victory over a Petron side handled by former FEU men’s volleyball mentor George Pascua and bannered by former Queen Tamaraws Rachel Anne Daquis and Maica Morada.

Ponce de Leon serves as assistant to Kungfu Reyes, who coaches the UST women’s volleyball team.

“Noong matalo nga ang UST eh sabi nila sa akin, 'O coach kayo na magcha-champion niyan,' ibabawi namin ang Tigers and we did naman,” she said.

Aside from Ponce de Leon, Foton star rookie Jaja Santiago was also a product of Santo Tomas as the middle blocker graduated from UST high school before being recruited by National University.

“I’m very thankful nga sa UST kasi I can feel yung support nila kasi doon kami nage-ensayo,” said Ponce de Leon.
