FOTON erased a six-point deficit in the third set to pull off a, 25-18, 26-24, 25-23, victory over Cignal on Saturday in the opener of the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at the MOA Arena.

The Tornadoes slowed down after a solid start and allowed the HD Spikers to fight back and even move ahead, 10-16, in the third but recovered in time to save the straight-sets win.

Patty Orendain scored 18 points, Nicole Tiamzon had an impressive start with 14 markers and Pam Lastimosa contributed eight to the Tornadoes, who needed only an hour and 29 minutes to complete the win.

“Last conference kasi we started late parang ’yung first games namin ’yun na ang training namin,” said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon.

“But this conference we were lucky to start early and most of our players from last conference were retained,” she added.

Ponce de Leon was pleased to see her wards rise above the challenge especially their new recruits Tiamzon, Lastimosa and second over-all pick Angeli Araneta, who had three markers.

“Maganda ang nagyari kanina nakita ko kung gaano katindi ang kapit ng mga players,” she said.

“Napatunayan that they can pace themselves and rise mula sa baba at nakahabol, they proved that they are really seasoned players,” she added.

Jannine Navarro scored 10 points for Cignal, which placed fourth in the PSL Grand Prix. Former Adamson standout Michelle Segodine scored five.
