FOTON coach Rommel Abella gave new recruit Tots Carlos a passing grade on her debut in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Three days after their campaign ended in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament, third-year University of the Philippines duo Carlos and Isa Molde donned the Foton jersey as the Tornadoes marched to the semifinals after defeating Sta. Lucia, 25-22, 25-23, 25-19.

“Passing naman. Syempre nandyan ‘yung nerves kasi hindi maaalis kasi iba ang UAAP, iba ang PSL pero pasado siya sa first game niya,” said Abella.

Although Molde did not play and Carlos, who came off the bench, scored one point in the match that took an hour and 28 minutes to finish. But Abella sees the pair of Lady Maroons as key contributors in the long run.

“Tots and Isa kasama talaga sila sa reserved list namin and alam namin na madami silang matutulong sa amin,” said Abella. "And sa dami ng pwede namin kunin, sila talaga ang pinili namin."

“Ang gusto ko kasi sa kanilang dalawa is matapang sila, whether it be on blocking, attacking, passing, matapang sila,” he added.

Foton will face defending champion F2 Logistics on Tuesday and Abella is hoping that the UP tandem can adjust well to the team.

“There’s a lot of areas pa na mai-impove and ang gusto ko sa kanila, pinapakita nila sa training (na gusto nila matuto),” he said.
