CIGNAL bounced back strong with a 25-19, 22-25, 25-15, 25-17 win over Sta. Lucia in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.

Royse Tubino led the way with 15 points for the Jovelyn Gonzaga-less HD Spikers, while Australian imports Alexis Mathews and Beth Carey had 14 and 11 markers, respectively, and Rachel Anne Daquis added 13.

“‘Yung skill nila, nandoon na eh so motivation na lang ang ginawa ko lalo na’t nawala si Jovy,” said Cignal coach George Pascua.

“Sabi ko sa kanila na kailangan step up, yung kakulangan ni Jovelyn punuan natin,” he added.

Coming from a straight set loss to F2 Logistics, where Gonzaga sustained a muscle strain, the HD Spikers showed resolve in recovering a second set setback to finish off the Lady Realtors and improve to 3-4.

It was a morale boosting win for the HD Spikers, who also offered their win for their injured opposite spiker.

“Oo 'yun din talaga ang sinabi ko sa kanila, para ito kay Jovy,” said Pascua.

Ukrainian import Bohdana Anisova finished with 17 points as the Lady Realtors dropped to 1-5.
