Opening day winners seek quarterfinal berths as Superliga Challenge Cup action heats up 
Bea Tan teams up anew with Pau Soriano as Foton Hurricane battles Gilligans for a quarterfinal berth in the Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup.

BUOYED up by their opening-day victories, Gilligan's and Foton Hurricane battle for a quarterfinal berth Saturday in the PLDT Home Ultera-Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup 2015 at the SM By the Sands in SM Mall of Asia.

The game is set at 1 pm with the Gilligan's tandem of Danica Gendrauli and Norie Diaz banking on its massive beach volleyball experience against the well-prepared duo of Foton Hurricane's Pau Soriano and Bea Tan.

Also expected to draw another large weekend crowd are head-turners Gretchen Ho and Charo Soriano of Petron XCS, Alexa Micek and Fille Cayetano of Petron Sprint 4T, and Cha Cruz and Michelle Laborte of Cignal HD Spikers A.

Petron XCS will face Aurora Tripoli and Rochet Dela Paz of Accel Quantum Plus B Perpetual Molino at 2:30 pm, while Petron Sprint 4T wages war against Cignal HD Spikers A in another exciting tiff at 3:20 pm to be aired live over TV5.

Philips Gold of Aileen Abuel and Rossan Fajardo will also try to join Cignal HD Spikers B of Wensh Tiu and April Ross Hingpit in the quarterfinals when it tangles with Amy's of Samantha Dawson and Len Cortel in the 4 p.m. game of the tournament organized by Sports Core with Accel as official outfitter, Sands By the Bay as venue partner and Maynilad as official water provider.

The Meralco pair of Jusabelle Brillo and Jem Guttierez also seeks to advance to the next round against a tough Foton Tornadoes side of Patty Orendain and Fiola Ceballos at 4:40 pm., followed by the match between Foton Hurricane and Cignal HD Spikers A at 5:30 pm, before Petron Sprint 4T and Gilligan's wrap up the second-day action in the women's division at 6:20 p.m.

“Our victory will be worthless if we could not sustain it,” said Gendrauli, the beach volley sensation from Cebu who starred in the Sisig Queens' stunning 21-19, 21-14 victory over the HD Spikers A last weekend.

“The format of beach volleyball is not easy. You have to keep on winning to remain in contention. That's why we have to keep on working hard to reach the championship match. This is just the start.”

In the men's side, Perpetual Molino A kicks off the action when it tangles with SM By the Bay B at 7:30 am, followed by the encounters between Centerstage and Champion Infinity A at 8:20 am; Perpetual Molino B and Champion Infinity B at 9 pm; SM By the Bay A and Cignal HD Spikers B at 9:40 am.


Cignal HD Spikers A then faces Champion Infinity A at 10:20 am; Perpetual Molino A and Centerstage battle each other at 11 am; IEM and Cignal HD Spikers B clash at 11:40 am, before Perpetual Molino B tangles with SM By the Bay at 12:20 pm.

SM By the Bay B returns to action at 7 p.m. when it clashes with Centerstage, while Champion Infinity B faces SM By the Bay A at 7:40 pm.

The encounter between Cignal HD Spikers A and Perpetual Molina A comes next at 8:20 pm, and IEM collides with Perpetual Molino B at 9 pm to finally cap another action-packed day.
