After 'beast' of a performance, Aby Marano confident momentum has shifted in Petron favor
“Intention ko talaga maging beast mode para maging infectious (ako),  for everyone in the team na ‘yun na rin ang mode nila,” says Petron star Aby Marano. Jerome Ascano

ABY Marano was back to her fiery self on Tuesday, and so is defending champion Petron which lived for another day in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix finals.

The Blaze Spikers leaned on a strong start and an even stronger finishing kick to eke out a masterful, 25-13, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, win over Foton in Game Two to force a do-or-die match in the title series on Saturday.

Marano said she needed to regain her intensity to be able to inspire the Blaze Spikers, who found themselves trailing the Tornadoes in the best-of-three finals, 0-1, following a stunning loss in the series opener.

“Intention ko talaga maging beast mode para maging infectious (ako),  for everyone in the team na ‘yun na rin ang mode nila,” stressed the former De La Salle skipper.

“’Yun din ang gusto namin mangyari,” she added. “Ito talaga ang chance natin to win kasi after this ayaw nating pagsisihan na pare-parehas na hindi tayo kumilos for the team. Ito ang chance natin for Game Three.”

With the way they played in Game Two, the former national team member is confident momentum has shifted in Petron’s favor entering the deciding Game Three on Saturday.

“Of course definitely the momentum is on our side na kasi nandoon na ang confidence namin naibalik na,” she said.

“And nakita namin kung gaano kalaki ang papel ng pagiging energetic mo sa loob ng court and pag-eejoy kasi nakalimutan namin last time ‘yun eh. ‘Yung pag-eenjoy and relax lang masyado kami naging tight kaya hindi kami nakakilos ng maayos,” she added.

After a measly two-point output in their 25-14, 21-25, 19-25, 22-25, loss in Game One, Marano was quick to recover and submitted 16 points, built around 12 spikes, three blocks, and one service ace during the Game Two win.
